flower boy and sunshine girl

This flower boy cannot grow
without his sunshine, girl.
Be his sunshine girl.
Shine on him like your life depends on it.
because fuck,
his life depends on it.
Find ways to shine more on days he's feeling down.
And ways to not overwhelm him with light when he is already,
overwhelmed.
Let him dance in the brightness of your love,
and watch him grow with every kiss you give him.
Love him.
Shine on.
Please.
Both you,
sunshine girl
and flower boy.
Shine on.
Dance on.
Love on.
Like your lives
depend on it.

raindrops in spokane

And when she kissed me,
it felt like a tiny universe had its own big bang
in my stomach.
Everything was loud
and exciting.
It was raining outside,
and the rain drops were racing each other down the car windows.
And she kissed me,
again.

Hello! My name is Ashton Frankie Rogers. I'm 19 years old. I graduated from Projects for Alternative Learning (PAL) in Helena, MT, on June 4th, 2016 receiving my high school diploma, and 2 leadership themed scholarships. In August of 2016 I moved to the state of Washington. Since moving, I have begun to participate in many poetry themed events in the Spokane area. I've competed in a handful of poetry slams through Spokane Poetry Slam. I have placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in 3 out of the 4 slams I have competed in at The Bartlett. Not only has it been wondrous finding new ways to share my words with the world, the people I have met along the way have been just as spectacular.
